About Essex Therapy

Humanistic counselling has an integrative approach it is about free will, self-discovery and achieving your full potential which incorporates a range of therapies. It focuses on you as a unique individual and your relationship with the world around you. Your therapy may be short or long-term, depending on your needs. The approach tailors to the need of the individual in a non-judgmental environment and provide a safe and confidential trusting space to enable you to develop and grow. Each session is personalised to match your explicit and implicit needs. These needs are often fluid and changeable.

“ Trust is the active engagement with the unknown. Trust is risky. It’s vulnerable. It’s a leap of faith”

What Is Counselling?

Counselling offers you a confidential safe place to talk about anything painful, causing concern confusion, or uncomfortable.   It allows you to talk with a  professional, who is trained to listen attentively, not judge and to help you make healthier life changes. The therapeutic belief is that each of us is unique, and therefore,  has the potential for growth, change and success.

Some of us find it hard to open up, especially if we don’t normally talk about our emotions. After a few sessions if you’re with the right counsellor it gets easier.

What To Expect

Counselling is a very personal process.

Exploring what’s causing you problems… the excessive stress, the constant anxiety and the low moods, regular sessions enable you to clear your mind of outdated beliefs, and irrational thoughts and focus on identifying your strengths, building on your successes and developing life skills and good communication with others.

Essex Therapy

Hi. I’m Clare Kiernan, I am the managing director of Essex Therapy with over 23 years of experience to offer you.

As an Accredited BACP Humanistic Counsellor, my extensive expertise is in supporting adults, young people, families, and couples who have ongoing challenges like depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, fear, ADHD, relationship difficulties or building communication with others.

I am goal focused, warm, passionate and committed to you.

My focus is to support you in overcoming your current circumstances. I provide care for those experiencing emotional and thought-provoking difficulties. Lots of us are feeling out of control, or stress in life at work or at home. Together we will gain clarity, build motivation, have meaning, find purpose and direction, and feel strong and powerful.

I work face-to-face, on the telephone and online. What makes me different; I listen carefully and read between the lines uncovering what might really be going on underneath. My specialist post-qualification training with Relate in Couples Therapy (Relationship building) and communication issues with others means that I am also uniquely placed to help you build stronger lifetime relationships with friends, family and lifelong partners.

Whether you are looking for support with a specific issue or want to find a confidential space to tend to your psychological health, my aim is to help you to feel more balanced and better able to live your best life with a blended approach of integrative tools including specialisms in couples counselling, autism, working with family coaching and work-based management development.

My professional clinical experience includes workplace counselling, university student supervision, women’s issues counselling and play therapy. I currently split my time between my private practice and working for a counselling/training organisation as a group supervisor and Family Liaison Advisor. I also provide group supervision for drug and alcohol rehabs in Essex. My full qualifications can be found here.
