Counselling for Adult Children of Alcoholics in Essex

Growing up with a parent who drank can leave deep marks. You do not have to carry them alone.

Understanding

How does growing up with alcohol affect adults?

Children of parents with alcohol problems often grow up with unpredictability, fear, secrecy or responsibility beyond their years. As adults, this can show up as anxiety, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting, perfectionism or a pull towards difficult relationships.

Counselling helps you understand those patterns and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.

You may recognise

  • Being hyper-alert to other people’s moods
  • Difficulty trusting or relaxing
  • People-pleasing or perfectionism
  • Fear of conflict
  • Worry about drinking yourself
  • Feeling responsible for others
